A crossroads between the Central-European and the Mediteranean cultures, Trieste has always been a pole of attraction.
Trieste is also the capital of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, a region with a special statute, bordering with Austria and Slovenia.

"Ho attraversato tutta la citta.
Poi ho salita un'erta,
popolosa in principio, in la deserta.
Da quest'erta ogni chiesa,
ogni sua via
se mena all'ingombrata spiaggia,
o alla collina cui, sulla sassosa
cima, una casa, l'ultima, s'aggrappa".

Umberto Saba

San Giusto Hill was almost undoubtedly the seat of a prehistoric conurbation: evidence is provided by its position, located between the sea, the hills and the nearby highlands, the analogous settlements of which are wll-documented.
The picture shows lighthouse in the port of Trieste, it is night-time picture made by classic film-camera.

Palazzo Pitteri

To the eye of today's visitor Trieste is like an open-air museum that displays all the architectural vicissitudes of the 19th century, tracing the development which began in the 18th century when it became the Free Port of the Hapsburg Empire.
Another night-time picture made by classic film-camera, showing Palazzo Pitteri at Piazza d'Unita.

Trieste doesn't look alike to other Italian towns, here is predominant "mittel europeische" architecture, it used to be under KundK monarchy until 1918.

Bella pagina, però sono d'accordo con Maurizio: San Spiridione andrebbe nei tip "things to do". Anch'io ho aggiornato la mia pagina e sabato 6 maggio ci sarà un VT meeting europeo a Trieste.

Una pagina molto ricca; davvero. Però seciondo me alcuni tips "of beaten track" sarebbe meglio che tu li mettessi in "general tips" o in "must see activities". Vedi per esempio quello delle chiese ortodossa e di S. Antonio Nuovo. Ciao!
