Festivals: Regata Storica
  • Tip Rating:
  • Probably the most asked question is, which is the best time to visit Venice? Some like it in spring, other in fall but most in the summer time. In my opinion, the best is to visit it in the first week of September, more specific, the first Sunday. It is the time when the most important event of the year take place, so called Regata Storica (Historic regata). During that event Venice is in particularly colourful, especially the canals which are cowded with the boats of all kind and their crew, dressed in the historic clothes from the Venice past.

    Festivals: Regatta Storica, 04.09.2005.
  • Tip Rating:
  • The vera first Sunday of September is the big day for Venice, the day when the town itself looks more spectacular then ever. It is the day of Regatta Storica, the spectacular annual event which last coupla of centuries now.
There was mini VT-meetring in that occasion, Sandy came from UK, Maurizio from nearby Caldonazzo and me from Croatia.

    Festivals: Regatta Storica, 04.09.2005.
  • Tip Rating:
  • We came to Ponte Accademia, round noon, in order to take the best possible position for shoting. After spending two or three hours under the heat, I was boring and little bit tired. Didn't want to move from my position, so I set down and this is what my camer saw.

    Festivals: Regatta Storica, 04.09.2005.
  • Tip Rating:
  • Before the Regatta started, Canal Grande was a very bussy place, there were lots of moving up and down the canal. More or less, it looked to me like a big confusion seeing all this boats going in opposite direction.

  • Then, all the suden, the police came asking us to leave the bridge for the security reasons. I can't express all of my disapointing I felt in that specific moment. We went to Piazza Barnaba, which is better then nothing position comparing it with Ponte Accademia.

    Local Customs: Caffe Florian
  • Tip Rating:
  • In 1720, an unknown coffee-house proprietor called Floriano Francesconi opened his cafe under the Procurative Nuove, unaware that he was creating an institution.
When visiting Venice caffe Florian is a must see. In the cold windy days you can enjoy in its fancy decorated rooms, while in the summer days on the open terrace in front where the orchrestra play classical music.

    Local Customs: Caffe Florian, interiors
  • Tip Rating:
  • Caffe Florian, with its interiors, pretty rooms, nineteenth century decor, and fancy decorations, including famous personalities and fanciful Oriental figures, gives a wonderful view of one of the most beautiful squares in the world.
Although much more expensive then the other cafe-bars in the town, a cup of coffee here worth all the money aou spend on it.

    Local Customs: Caffe Florian, interiors
  • Tip Rating:
  • Caffe Florian owes much of its fame to a famous customers, who's pictures can be seen on the walls above the tables. Most of them visited caffe every day, when in Venice, having its own table here.
Besides coffe, which is of superior quality, the caffe offers delicious cakes, the best you can have in Venice.

Local Customs: Show me the way
  • Tip Rating:
  • Hmmm, it looks to me like a hard way to earn some pockett money. This young and very attractive local student-girl, standing on the stilts, is showing the way to one of the Venetian galleries. As she told me, the money is good but the job is very exhausted.
Another way of earning money, not less exhausted and not excusevelly Venetian patent, is to perform the living statue. It looks like a kind of penitence to me, standing for hours under the sun immovably, gosh, I couldn't do it.

Local Customs: Traffic jam in the canals
  • Tip Rating:
  • Traffic jam is probably the first impression one might have when in the boat approaching to Ponte Rialto. Lots of boats, small and bigger, is going simultaneously in both directions of Canal Grande.
The traffic in the canal is in particularly intense the first Sunday of September, during the Regatta Storica, a must see event .
Is there any boat crash here ever?

Tried to find this lovely restuarant on the recommendation of a family friend last year and it was closed down (no tables/chairs, very dusty, newspaper over windows) :-(
