Bogu iza nogu

Volterra in the late afternoon

Volterra
I dunno how to translate the croatian expression "bogu iza nogu",we use it in case the destination is not easy to be reached and Volterra is one of those destinations. Perhaps it is why some tourists are visiting nearby San Gimignano and then quit of visiting Volterra which is situated at the deadend road. Anyhow, it is worth of trouble because at the end of the road there is beautiful reward.
Volterra is beautiful townlet, lost among the hills of Tuscany, but I found surrounding landscapes much more beautiful then the town itself.

The landscape around Volterra

I couldn't stop admiring the surrounding landscapes of Volterra, rich of colours in the late August afternoon. Too bad I hadn't my classical camera with, to take the pictures. The fact is, digital camera makes it easier but still, it cannot compite the classical camera regarding natural colours.
Remnants of the Roman temple and thermal spa

Roman Volterra

I had no idea Volterra has such a rich and long history. Bellow the city walls there is an area where remnants from the Roman times can be seen. Besides the temple and the thermal spa, there is an huge amphitheatre.

Ma te digitalne slike i nisu tako lose ;) Poceo sam citati Rough Guide za Toskanu, mislim da bi mogao tamo u neko dogledno vrijeme. A ovi Etruscani u Volterri su zbilja zanimljivi.

Hi Boris. Excellent pages with great pics and tips. Some of the arches pictured were in fact built by the Etruscans.
