Istria is the most famous Croatian region, the nearest to Western Europe. Diverse, with well known touristic destinations has to be seen as a whole with its unique, preserved and gentle hinterland. Here the Roman amphitheatre and the Triumphal Arch are in complete harmony with the medieval basilicas and frescos, while the small stone towns stands shoulder to shoulder with the modern tourist resorts.
Istria itself is the northeenmost exotic oasis of the Mediterranean, which boasts many rare plant and animal species and an invaluable cultural heritage, from the Roman times to the 19th century.

When in Istra order and taste this:
- Prosciutto, famous and widely recognized Istrian hors d'oeuvre.
- Truffles, the most famous mushrooms from Istra, best of a kind in the whole world.
- Supa with red wine, nine decilitars of warmed up red wine are poured into the "bukaleta" (usually an earthernware jug), then a teaspoon of sugar, olive oil, papper and warn, toasted bread are added to the wine.
- Manestre, (vegetable stews) characteristics of Istrian cuisine are the various and rich stews, called manestre.

I love the medieval look!! Those old castles and buildings look so cool! I would love to wander around and dream about being in another time! The Kažuns look avery interesting! Fantastic photos!!
