Historical Town on Bodensee | Border between Konstanz & swiss city Kreuzlingen |
Constance is Cultural and Economic center of Lake of Konstanz, which is also known as "Bodensee" in German Language.
This lake has great significance as it join three countries together: Switzerland, Germany & Austria.
Constance is a very old and historical town of Germany and it was first settled by Romans. It played a leading role in Middle ages when it was the center of the ´Duchy of Swabia´, whose territory included much of Europe and it was also the largest Bishopric, North of the (swiss) Alps. This town reached its apex when the ´Council of Constance´ convened here from 1414 to 1418. The meeting chose a single Pope (replacing Three others) and thereby healing the ´Great Schism´in catholic church.
Today Constance is a rather more liberal town with little Industry. About one in seven inhabitants - affectionately known as Seehas (Lake Rabbits) - is a student in University of Constance, which was founded in 1966.
