Getting TO/AROUND: Rome is not a good place to enjoying driving. It is a typical big city with lots and lots of cars, buses, trams, tourists etc. etc. A driver must be vigilent and never lose its concentration. I know its diffcult because you pass by so many beautiful buildings that u can't control yourself.
I drove from Bergamo to Rome and it was in Easter Holidays. There was too much traffic on the Motorways and it took us 14 hours instead of 7 hours to reach Rome ! When we reached there we were extremely tired and sleepy. So, My advice is to never drive to Rome in Easter vacations.
