For us this was our second visit to Borneo. We felt that we hadnt seen enough of the real Borneo so we concentrated our time in Sarawak.
Our first week was our eco week and the second would be our resting week
Our base for the first week would be Kuching
During our stay in Kuching we took a 3 day 2 night visit to Bako National Park. The park is very close to Kuching 1 hour by car/minivan and the 1 hour in a longtail boat. Access is only during high tides so the tours are best booked and preferably with a guide.
Once on the park there is a wealth of wild life flora and fauna.
I recomend a night jungle walk(with guide and torch) what an experience. The are Proboscus monkeys silver leaf Macacs and the long tailed macacs vipers pitcher plants and plenty of buterflies and birds. The trails vary in length .
The shop in the park is very limited and water is expensive so it migh be worth the struggle to take a couple of litres out with you
It is a definate must
We have just come back from our 3rd visit to Borneo visiting both Saba in the north and Sarawak in the south. Most of the place we went were places we had been to during our last visits. The exception was the Caves at Mulu. They were stunning and the evening show af the bats leaving were the icing on the cake. a "not to be missed" experience The biggest problem is getting there you have to fly in as there is only one road from the airport to the one hotel. Flights Mon Wed and Fri but this might change once summer arrives
- Pros:People animals and scenery
- Cons:Distance to get there and the humidity
- In a nutshell:See it before it gets spoilt
