I've ALWAYS wanted to visit San Francisco, for no specific reason, but I always knew I would love this city.
And driving along Highway 80, driving across Bay Bridge towards the city center was like a dream coming true.
The nice weather of the southern and eastern part of California were gone, it was impossible to see Golden Gate Bridge (at least on day 1), and it was so cold that you needed a jacket even during the day - but it was GREAT!!
It's a city with a wonderful relaxed atmosphere, parts of the city that are very different from each other, an incredible amount of cafes, bars and restaurants, and book stores open until late at night.
