The Rhön mountains

by IceBear7 - last update: Apr 7, 2005

Rhön is the name of one of the low mountain ranges in Germany - there are several spread across the country. The highest mountain in the Rhön is the Wasserkuppe, 950m above sea level.

The whole area is great for hiking, there are some villages and small towns with half-timbered houses, lots of sheep (don't get confused with the animal in the picture above...), they have great beer, you can go skiing in winter, kiting in fall, there are a lot of traditions and legends.

It's the region where I grew up and lived for 19 years and I try to build a nice page for you. But hey, the ambition is here now, let's see where it is in two weeks time ;-)
Camels
What a surprise even for me... you drive through the country side, you expect some cows or sheep or horses - but you see camels!!!

Pea soup or ice cream? Do you have to carry them up the mountain, or is there a restaurant at the top?

Nice start. Camels I saw enough in my life, but Apfelwein is something new for me ;-)

Hey Stef, did I ask you where those camels were before? I don't remember. (see what happens when one turns fifty!) ;-)
