If you have breakfast here you don't need anything again until the next morning! It's a huge breakfast buffet, with fruit, jogurt, cereals, bread, cheese, all kinds of eggs, salmon, salads, cakes, croissants etc etc. For 7.90 Euro you can eat as much as you want, including various types of coffees and teas and one glass of fresh orange juice.
On Saturdays it's busy, lots of people come to get their energy before an exhausting day of shopping along the luxury stores in the Kö area. So you won't have a cosy, relaxed breakfast like in some of the other cafes in Düsseldorf. But you get a lot of food for a great price!
Breakfast buffet from 8 to 11, general meals afterwards. Self service. General opening hours 7 days a week, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
You can find the Marché Mövenpick Restaurants throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland, at many airports and fancy locations.

Altbier at Kappeshamm
A wonderful coincedence that KAPPESHAMM is just 5 minutes away from my apartment. Opened only recently but they already have crowds coming in even on a ordinary monday night. great food, really nice staff, basic interior and decoration combined with fresh flowers and a chandelier. The huge table underneath the chandelier is great for a group of around 15 people.
This could become one of my favorite restaurants/ pubs in Düsseldorf.
Favorite Dish: Überbackene Maultaschen in leckerem Gemüse!! (difficult to translate, sorry)
Address: Ahnfeldstraße / Weseler Straße
Directions: S-Bahn Zoo or tram to Brehmstraße
it's the one with the green lights.

Maybe the best fast food you get in Düsseldorf, so much better than the huge burger outlets you find anywhere in the world.
At Libanon Express you get great Arabian dishes, full plates or just some tiny pieces of spinach in dough, falafel, grilled meat and chicken, mixed plates, salads and very sweet sweets for dessert.
All very fresh, very tasty, very healthy probably, and very friendly staff!
Favorite Dish: I never had anything that I did not like!
Address: Bolker Str, Berger Str, Sevens + Schadowarkaden
Comparison: least expensive
Directions: throughout the city! in shopping centers and pub areas. They are quite a big chain and also have sit-down restaurants beside the fast food outlets.

Suppenwerk is a small chain of 3 soup restaurants in Düsseldorf. Basic but stylish and GREAT FOOD! They have some normal soups and some very exotic, like something with peanuts and veg from Simbabwe. The good thing about it: they let you taste the soup before ordering so you know what you get. or what you order the next time.
self service, but you can have wine with your soup, and they give you wonderful bread as well.
The restaurants are in the Hafen area, in Bilk and in Heerdt.

Rethelstraße is a busy shopping street about 20 min away from the city center in the pretty Zooviertel area. If you need a brake from all the grocery shopping go to Milds!
They have some of the best coffees in town and they are not a thousand-outlet-brand like starbucks. you get breakfasts and salads as well and 3 special meals that are changing every day. a desert of the week. home made cakes. freshly ground coffee. uerige altbier. and a little piece of cake with your coffee not the "ordinary" cooky.
Come with your book or newspaper, with a friend or alone. They recently extended their opening hours, now open until 10 p.m. and open on Sundays!
original art on the walls and very nice staff!

You won't need Burger Kind and McD ever again coz nobody offers that many burgers (about 40 different ones!) and nobody has burgers with such great taste!
They have fair prices, the restaurant has only 4 or 5 tables, everything quite basic, staff is very friendly.
UPDATE: due to popular demand they've recently opened a new branch of this unique burger place. it's located right in the old town, in Bolker Straße. Look is more fancy than the old one, you get cocktails as well, and the burgers taste them. Hmm, I think I still prefer the old one, its cooler and more of a "cult" ;-)
Favorite Dish: El pollo diabolo menu- a hot, spicy chicken burger with chips and a coke!!!!!!
Address: Roßstraße 1 and Bolker Straße
Comparison: less expensive than average
Directions: 1) Corner with Münsterstraße in Derendorf
2) old town/ Altstadt

Düsseldorf is full of Japanese restaurants and sushi places, because so many Japanese people live in our city. My fav place for sushi is Na Ni Wa sushi and more. Quite small, on two floors, nice staff, plain interior with interesting photographs on the wall and most of all - great food!
Across the street there is the Na Ni Wa noodles and soups, which is an open kitchen with just a few tables, it's always full, many Japanese people go there (sign of quality), you often have to queue, but the noodles are great!
Favorite Dish: They have a huge menu with single "pieces" of sushi and some "pre-packed" plates (just the right amount, one piece of sushi more would be too much), soups and some other dishes. Everything seems very fresh, very tasty, there is Japanese beer and tea and cocktails.
You better make a reservation if you come with a bigger group of people.

In the busy harbour area, this Italian restaurant is a quiet, relaxed place to have some great pasta and pizza. All kinds of crowds: families, couples, young people on dates, business partners, friends. Nice interior, mostly Italian staff. Portions are just right.
Not exactly cheap, standard Düsseldorf prices I would say. Not the standard pasta sauces but somewhat special (for example pasta with caviar).
Favorite Dish: Wonderful pasta with a creamy sauce with crawfish and asparagus.
Address: Hammerstraße 6
Comparison: about average
Directions: just across from Gehry buildings

The place is very basic, just wooden tables, orange chairs, without a lot of decoration. Lots of magazines, nice student atmosphere but also with other guests (who used to be students?). Some tables outside as well, but at a very busy road, so I prefer inside.
The building itself is full of history - it was originally built as a hotel in 1896, with a busy pub and betting office. Today there are offices, apartments and a nice pub/ restaurant.
Favorite Dish: Salad with "Maultaschen" and Schumacher Alt!
