Things To Do: Peninsulas... Mornington & Bellarine.

Sorrento and Portsea, on the Mornington Peninsula, are filled with antique shops, galleries, cafes and numerous walking trails along the ocean-facing coastline. Inland, you’ll find a number of wineries, where many vineyard restaurants create gourmet dishes to match their wines. On the Bellarine Peninsula, the historic town of Queenscliff boasts many Victorian buildings, fishermens’ cottages, galleries and shops.... Both Bellarine and Mornington peninsulas offer many water activities. In particular, surfing, sailing, swimming and fishing are enjoyed, as is swimming with resident populations of dolphins and seals. This region is also known for its markets, artist workshops, championship golf courses and fresh produce... you can pick your own strawberries, cherries and other seasonal fruits or buy directly from the farm gate. Wallington is just one of these 'berry' towns, they also have a Strawberry Festival every year.

Things To Do: The Murray River Region...
Tip Rating: |
Stretching 2,700 kilometres from the mountains of the Great Dividing Range in north-eastern Victoria, to Adelaide in South Australia, the Murray River is one of the world’s longest navigable rivers and a major source of water supply for the area. The Murray is steeped in Aboriginal culture and history. Long before European settlement, the riverland was home to Aboriginal tribes who lived off the abundant natural resources the Murray provided. The river’s standing as one of the greatest in the world has been recognised since the late nineteenth century, when visiting American author Mark Twain compared it favorably with the Mississippi River. Today, restored paddlesteamers take their tourist trade past historic ports, as the river meanders by the vineyards of Rutherglen and resort towns such as Mildura, Echuca/Moama, just to mention a few. Irrigation has transformed the Murray into a lush paradise, producing citrus, stone fruits, nuts, grapes and vegetables. Also alluring are the cellar doors that invite you to sample locally produced wines, or the choice of restaurants serving up mouth-watering local cheeses, yabbies, smoked trout, mustards and preserves. This region has an abundant wildlife, including wombats, kangaroos and the rare mallee fowl. Also on offer are activities like water skiing, canoeing, fishing and horseriding. As well as many accommodations, ranging from caravan parks and houseboats to luxury resorts.

Things To Do: Victorian Goldfields...
Tip Rating: |
The discovery of gold in Victoria’s central region over 150 years ago has left a rich and lasting legacy. Victorian architecture and cultural traditions derived from the many nationalities that came to this region, in search of riches. Grand nineteenth-century buildings grace the streetscapes of Ballarat and Bendigo, while townships like Maldon, Castlemaine and Stawell, thick with quaint shopfronts and miners’ cottages, wear their goldrush heritage on their sleeves. Sovereign Hill recreates a goldmining town and the life of its people in the 1850s. Gold museums, underground mine tours and the Eureka Stockade, not far from the original site of the bloody Eureka Rebellion. This region is known for it's art galleries, festivals, and extensive parklands and gardens, as well as many other activities. Also enjoyable is cycling the scenic path around Lake Wendouree... For superb collections of local and European painting, visit two of Australia’s best regional galleries – the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery and Bendigo Art Gallery.

Things To Do: The Great Ocean Road..
Tip Rating: |
The Great Ocean Road winds westwards from the major regional city of Geelong to the South Australian border. Along with beautiful ocean views, the region contains laidback coastal towns and villages, and there are plenty of opportunities for bushwalking, swimming, surfing, fishing and whale-watching. The Great Ocean Road hugs the contours of Victoria’s rugged southwest coast, taking visitors on one of Australia’s greatest and most inspiring coastal drives. From Torquay, near Geelong, to Nelson almost 300 kilometres to the west, the road snakes past cliffs, scenic lookouts, waterfalls, rainforests and sunken ships. Wild seas and fierce winds, have sculpted the coastline over millions of years to form some of the most incredible features. The Twelve Apostles, and London Bridge are just two places, not to be missed.
