Hilo.....
What a Beautiful place this is ;-) I only spent a couple of hours here, and most of what I saw was from the Tour Bus, but it sure stayed etched in my memory.
I was amazed to see that most of the buildings were a long way from the waters edge, and after hearing the story of the "The Big Wave" I could see how it came to be. The parks that are there, where the buildings used to be, really add to it, and open it up to some wonderful scenery.
I couldn't help but wonder about the wall that was built as a water break. Somehow, I just couldn't see that wall making too much difference, if the ocean unleashed her fury again. (God forbid)
I would have loved to walk across to Coconut Island, it looked like the perfect place to spend some quiet time.
Oh well, perhaps next time ;-)
The east side of the Big Island, is very green, and there are an incredible amount of waterfalls. We stopped at Rainbow Falls with the tour bus, and the scenery here was just so beautiful. We passed many other falls along the way, and I would have liked to see Akaka Falls also, but we didn't go that way ;-)
