Maryborough
Maryborough was settled in 1847 and is one of Queensland's oldest provincial cities.
Located three hours from Brisbane, Maryborough was a major immigration port into Australia and a visit to the Wharf Street Precinct retains many reminders of this period.
Today, Maryborough is widely recognised for the colonial and Queenslander architecture, majestic public buildings and beautiful gardens, both private and public, which reflect the graceful lifestyle of a bygone era.
Much of the city's character has been preserved in these classic buildings, mostly built of local timber in a range of sizes and designs
I have visited Maryborough more times than I can remember. It is aprox. 35 kilometers from Hervey Bay, and I have to say the shopping is much better there.
Maryborough is located near the Bruce Highway, which is the main Highway from Brisbane, to Cairns...
- Pros:Lovely, historical city.. Great shopping..
- Cons:Just a tad too far from the coast...
- In a nutshell:Great for a visit..
