Things To Do: Ferry across Port Phillip Bay..
  • Tip Rating:
  • A vehicle and passenger ferry operates between Queenscliff and Sorrento taking approximately 35 minutes.
The Ferry runs daily (every hour) in all weather, and is a beautiful scenic trip across Port Phillip Bay.
A group of us enjoyed this trip about a week ago, and on the return trip, we saw seals not too far from the ferry. One of the seals was quite comical, as he appeared to be laying on his back, with one flipper held high, as though he was waving.. ;-)

Bookings are not required but it is advisable to be at the ferry terminal 15 minutes prior to departure.

  • Unusual I guess, in the fact that the Lighthouse is black... But there is another lighthouse, and ofcoarse, that one is white..
It is located just a little way down the coast, at Point Lonsdale.

    Things To Do: Fort Queenscliff
  • Tip Rating:
  • Guns on display just outside Ft. Queenscliff, which was developed between 1850 and 1880.
Ships fixing their position in relation to the first two lighthouses can navigate The Rip. Between those lighthouses was built Fort Queenscliff, one of a defensive network of armed stations guarding the entrance to Port Phillip.
During the 1880s Queenscliff was the most fortified port in the Southern Hemisphere.

Things To Do: Look.... No hands..
  • Tip Rating:
  • OK, I know... not the most ladylike position...
Never did learn to ride side saddle... ha,ha...

Actually, this was an interesting place to visit, lots of history about Ft. Queenscliff. There is also a museum here, which tells about the past of this region.

    Things To Do: Seafood Festival..
  • Tip Rating:
  • On Good Friday, Queenscliff held a Seafood Festival on the foreshore.
It was in aid of The Children's Hospital Appeal, so a lot of people turned up for the outdoor event.
They had great music all day, from classic rock, blues, pop... oldies..
    A very enjoyable day..

Great page! I really like your information about the vineyards!!! Nice photos. On my "Koblenz"-page I have a tip and a travelogue about a vineyard, too.
