Beaches: Beautiful Bondi
  • Tip Rating:
  • Bondi Beach is probably Australia's most famous beach, and among the world's most well-known..
The beach, roughly a kilometre long, is located on the east coast of Australia and is a suburb of the city of Sydney.
It is well served by public transport, and only a short distance from the city itself.

Bondi Beach is very popular with the locals as well as travelers.. and the township is really beautiful.
Because I was here during winter time, there were not many people, which added to the peaceful surroundings.
There are many eateries, sidewalk cafe's, hotels, and shops all along the promenade, and being so close to the City, it makes for an easy trip out there..

Off The Beaten Path: City to Surf Run
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Annual 'City to Surf Fun Run' was held this past week. A record breaking 65,000 runners ran the race from College Street in the city, to Bondi Beach.
What a shame I left just a few days before this fantastic event...
Would have been fun to watch.. lol..

    Beaches: The Action
  • Tip Rating:
  • And this is where all the action was.. I guess the beach was a little more crowded on this day, than when I was there.

    Beaches: Almost Deserted..
  • Tip Rating:
  • As you can see, there were very few people here on this day, even though the temperature was hovering around 21cel.
This is still way too cold for me, to go for a swim, but fantastic weather for walking around and taking in the sites..

    Beaches: Hotels & Apartments
  • Tip Rating:
  • Lovely hotels and apartments just across the park from the beach. A lovely place to relax, and watch the waves roll in.

    Beaches: Botany Bay
  • Tip Rating:
  • James Cook was the first European to step ashore on the shores of Botany Bay in 1770..
Today, Botany Bay is still the place where thousands of visitors and new settlers land at Sydney Airport on a long runway which extends into the Bay.

On weekends yachts, sailing boats, wind surfers and fishing boats enjoy Botany Bay.
Swim or picnic at the bayside parks and baths of Brighton-Le-Sands, Ramsgate and Dolls Point.
Cycle or walk along the beach, and enjoy sidewalk dining or picnics beneath the trees in Cook Park.
Dolls point is a lovely beach, and just a few seconds from where I was staying.

Beaches: Flying - At Dolls Point
  • Tip Rating:
  • Just one of the many activities you see people enjoying at Dolls Point.
This particular day was incredibly windy, and these were the only people we saw out there, besides us ofcoarse.. and we stayed only a few minutes..
A few days later the winds become a big problem in the Sydney area, causing widespread damge and a fatality.

Southern Highlands / Coast: Bass & Flinders
  • Tip Rating:
  • Sydney Southern Highlands / Coast
  • Bass & Flinders Memorial..
  • by Sweetberry1
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • Both Bass and Flinders were born in England. Bass joined the Royal Navy as a surgeon's mate, when he was eighteen.
Flinders joined the Royal Navy in 1790, at about the same time as Bass, and served training as a navigator.

Bass and Flinders later sailed together in 1795, on the voyage to New South Wales.
Both were in their early twenties. Together, they explored the coastline adjacent to the Port Jackson settlement using two small boats, both of which were named "Tom Thumb."

In 1797, Bass was then given command of a whaleboat with a crew of six to explore the coastline south of Sydney.

Bass later spent a few years in trading ventures to the New South Wales colony, around the Pacific Islands and to South America. His ship, "Venus" disappeared on one such voyage in 1803.

On Flinders' return to England in 1800 he was appointed to command a scientific expedition, to carefully map the south-west coast of Australia and the Great Barrier Reef.
In 1803 Flinders was captured by the French on the Island of Mauritius. The French held him until 1810, claiming he was a spy, after which time he returned to England.

There are also very strict laws regarding the level of alcohol you can have in your system. Random breath testing occurs all the time from any police car. Be safe, just dont drink at all.
