This area is known as Costa del Coco. "Coconut Coast"
“Punta Cana” means “point of the palms” because of the abundance of palm trees in this area. Punta Cana is located on the easternmost tip of the island, and is known for its gorgeous turquoise beaches. Punta Cana is unique for a variety of reasons, both geographic and historical. It is located on the coast where the Atlantic and Caribbean Oceans meet. It is also the place where the Spaniards first met the Tiano Indians (original inhabitants of the Dominican Republic) over five centuries ago. Punta Cana has over 20 miles of pristine beaches. This is the perfect place to relax and unwind—there is no bustling town nearby, and the area is replete with natural wonders. |
