Rafting the Deschutes River

The number one thing to do in Maupin is white water rafting on the Deschutes River. The standard day trip is a 13 mile stretch of river from Harpham Flats to Sandy Beach.
We drove 2.5 hours from Portland to make this exciting rafting trip many times. Most companies in town will rent you a raft for $85 weekdays and $140 on weekends, we always go on a weekday and you can take anywhere from 4-8 people on one raft.

Renting the Raft

The company we used provided a free cooler on the raft, and a cage to hold it. This way we drank beer and ate munchies all the way down. If you go fairly slow it will take about 3 hours to go down, very exciting and class 2 &3 rapids are fun and easy to navigate. At one point there is a class 4 rapid, but its just good fun. At each tricky spot there are local photographers up on a rock on the side of the river taking pictures to sell you when you are done. We choose the shuttle option, where they take you to the launch site and pick you up from the end and take you back to the cars for $20 with as many people as you can fit in the van. Also if you get done too early you can offer up $20 and the rafting company we went with, will take you back up to the top to do it again. The company we went with was called ALL STAR RAFT and KAYAK. They were smak dab in the middle of town, super easy to find and super accommodating.
