McGann's Pub. One of the best...
  • Tip Rating:

  • McGann's Pub. One of the best Irish pubs in Boston that I've been to. And that is saying a lot, as Irish pubs are as big a part of Boston as the Charles, the Boston Common, and the T. It is not that big a place, but the atmosphere is great, the beer is fresh, and the food is delicious. I make it a point to stop by every time I'm anywhere nearby.
Great food, great atmosphere, fresh brews. And did I mention the waitresses and their loveliest of Irish accents?

Favorite Dish: You absolutely must get the teriyaki steak tips. Ask for medium. They're the best tips I have had to date, period! Get them with mashed or fries (or chips, depending on where you're from).

    Skipjack's: Skipjack's
  • Tip Rating:
  • Restaurant Name: Skipjack's

Skipjack's is a small chain, with locations in Boston, Brookline, Newton, and Natick. We ate at the one in Boston, around Copley Square, but I have heard that other locations are just as good. The restaurant isn't particularly large, but it is very cozy. The atmoshpere was great, the decor is appealing, the place was clean, and the service was great as well. Prices are reasonable, considering the location and the type of restaurant. Dinner, desert, and a couple of drinks will likely set you back $30-40

Favorite Dish: Although a seafood place, they serve meat and poultry as well, and it's all very good! I had the steak tips (I know, I know. Meat in a seafood place... But I had seafood the day before), and they were excellent. Everything else that others had ordered apparently was very good as well, as far as I could gather.

Pho Pasteur: Soups to die for!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Pho Pasteur

When it's 5F and you're really, REALLY cold, there're few things better than a nice hot bowl of soup. And if you're in the vicinity of the Boston Common, you owe it to yourself to swing by the Pho Pasteur on Stuart St. They specialty are soups (Phos), but they also serve a number of main course dishes. The soups are excellent. They're served in huge bowls, with just the right amount of spices and greens, and lots of thin noodles. Haven't tried the rest of the menu, but was assured by a regular that everything else is just as good. All this, and the lunch prices are very cheap as well - expect to pay $7-10 for lunch and feel stuffed!

This Pho Pasteur is one of the newer restaurants in the chain of 4 or so all over Boston.

Favorite Dish: The seafood soup that I had was great. Huge bowl, the broth was not greasy at all, and tasted delicious. Lots of different seafood parts (squid, crab, shrimp, etc.) and lots of tasty noodles. Topped off with lots of greens, including some fresh basil and other trimmings that you can add to taste.

    Solas: Good Irish Pub
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Solas

Very nice Irish pub near Copley. Good food, fresh Guinness on tap (and they know how to pour it properly!), and authentic Irish waitresses. Great place for lunch if you're in the area or a stop while barhopping.

Favorite Dish: I had the BBQ sandwhich - delish! Their mac&cheese was supposedly very good, though I'm going by others' opinions on that one. And of course, the fresh Guinness :)

I like Boston, too. I need to go back there one day and see it properly. I used to visit for family events and never had time to really explore.

I've lived here my whole life and I don't have even one picture of Boston! Kind of sad!
