Just one of the photos you could miss from a car..
Yeah, yeah... Corny, I know. But seriously, the best way to explore Sydney is on foot. There's just too much that you'll miss from the window of a car or bus. The interesting architecture of some of the older buildings, the unique adverts, the little cafes tucked into the alleys, and of course the rank and file sydneysiders going about their own business. In other words all the little things that will make your visit to Sydney that much more memorable.

The best (or should I say the only quick & easy ) way to get to Sydney or Australia in general from overseas or in fact from most other places in Australia is to fly there. The airport is just south of the city, and there're numerous shuttles and buses that will bring you into Sydney proper, as well as a dedicated branch of the city's City Rail subway system. If you opt for the subway, it's A$11 one way. There's also a shuttle that will take you in for about $8.

City Rail is Sidney's submway system. It is fairly extensive, and reaches pretty far into the suburbs. The train cars tend to be large, 2-level affairs with lots of seating, but not so much standing space. Still, they operate fairly often during the rush hours to avoid the serious crunch. The fares are a bit pricy, so if you plan on utilizing the rail quite a bit, you may want to get a discount pass. One attractive option is the daypass, which includes unlimited travel on City Rail, as well as all city buses and ferries, for only A$15. There're, of course, _numerous_ other options, so do your research in advance, as it may be hard to decide exactly what you'll need on the spot.

This relatively novel form of transport will take you all around Sydney's city center and Darling Harbour. The stops are numerous and close to many of the landmarks and attractions. The cost is A$4 per entry, or you can get a day pass for A$9.

You'll see these things all around the Sydney Harbour's numerous wharfs and quays - Darling Harbour, Circular Quay, King's Wharf, The Rocks, North side of the city, etc. They're small, albeit cool looking boats, that will take you to some other place around the Harbour, or just take you out for a tour.
