Alice Thai Restaurant: Cheap food that doesn't suck.
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Alice Thai Restaurant

If you're in Sydney on a budget, Alice Thai can be your ticket to a full stomach, thanks to their A$7 lunch specials. There're quite a few choices on the lunch menu, and the portions are pretty good sized. They will fill you up. Food itself isn't necessarily the tastiest Thai you've ever tried, but it is most certainly edible, and for the price you can't beat it. Alice is on the 2nd floor of Hotel Sweeney's - a seemingly popular place among the locals for a quick cheap lunch, a few quick (and also cheap) pints in the bar on the 1st floor or on the restaurant floor, outdoor seating on the roof, and the ever-popular FREE internet access in the attic.

Favorite Dish: I ate here a total of about 3 times. Both chicken & beef Pad Thai weren't bad. Green Curry was a bit boring, but not bad either.

Kings Cross & Potts Point Restaurants: Creativity's the game!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Spring Espresso

Sydney is full of little cafes on almost every corner. This one I found to be more creative than most, so it gets a tip of its own as a reward :). Located on the corner of Challis Ave. and MacLeay St. in Potts Point, this is a cute cafe, with outside seating, good food, and reasonable prices. If you're staying in the area, you may want to stop by for lunch & check it out. And did I mention they're creative?

Favorite Dish: Be sure to order a Flat White.

Harry's Cafe de Wheels - Pies: A street legend
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Harry's Cafe de Wheels.Pies.

This place is legendary! In fact, it's almost become a tourist attraction these days. Basically a street stand that has attained its status by always being there for the hungry masses in the wee hours of the morning. The usual fare are hot dogs and pies of all sorts. The food is good and cheap ($5 meal, can't beat that!) - just be weary of sea gulls trying to steal it from you. And it's only open all night on weekends. Weekdays I think it closes around 1 or 2am.

Favorite Dish: I had one of the pies, can't remember which one. It wasn't bad at all, fairly filling too. Be sure to grab extra napkins!!
