"João Pessoa outruns your wildest dreams!" João Pessoa by Jaco_Emmen

This fort was build by the Dutch on the river side of Joao Pessoa, you know, apart from many other cities this city was not first build on the beautifull Atlantic coast, it started inland, on the banks of the Rio Paraiba, and then graduatly grew towards the Atlantic coast, there the beaches are still in good condition, many people visit over the weekends but during the normal weekdays you will have some chance to walk the beach by yourself!

Something I have never seen before, you need to be there in June to see the small turtles crawl to the Atlantic Ocean, the ones that go the wrong way are picked up, transported in a bucket to the right side of the beach to help them find the ocean which will be their mother for the rest of their lifes.
One beauty of a landmark!
As far as I know the only place on this planet where the turtles lay their eggs even when there are people sunbathing on the beach!

On the ferry with the buggy

If you have at least one day left, bargain your way into a beach buggy one, for about 150 Reais you can rent a buggy, driver included, and set of to see the fantastic beaches surrounding João Pessoa. There is a trip to the South and a trip to the North, both worth taking! oOn the photo you can see the ferry cross the river to visit the part North from João Pesosa.
