I have visited Valladolid a couple of times. The first was in September 2000 and the second exactly one year later.
I drove from Madrid to Valladolid on the A-6 highway to catch the soccer games of the Pucela team. In 2000 I witnessed the 1-1 tie against Numancia and in 2001 the 1-1 draw versus Valencia.
The picture above is of the city's soccer stadium named after the writer Jose Zorrilla. I was there on 9/9/2001 during the feast of the Virgin of San Lorenzo.
By coincidence, both trips happened on a Sunday during the week of the city's annual fiesta.
Besides soccer the visitor can partake of other cultural events like: bullfights, street festivals, fair, etc...
Why my interest in Valladolid, you may ask?
The answer has to do with my place of origin....in Michoacan Mexico.
I was born in a city called Zamora that has a river called Duero flowing through it. Nearby cities have names like Leon, Salamanca, etc.... The capital of Michoacan state is Morelia but when it was founded by the Spaniards in the late 1500s it was given the name Valladolid.
Coincidentally (or maybe not) two of my favorite soccer teams are Monarcas Morelia and Valladolid FC (Aupa Pucela!).
