Fans of The Andy Griffith Show will immediately get the references. Yes, Mount Airy is the birthplace of actor Andy Griffith, and the setting for his beloved 1960s television show. I grew up on The Andy Griffith Show so a stop to this small town just off the Blue Ridge Parkway was a must. Don't expect Mayberry; Mount Airy is really nothing more than a small, average North Carolina town, but things change when Mayberry Days hits full stride in late September and Goober, Gomer, Otis (my favorite character!) and Aunt Bea all appear around town.
