A constant work in progress

"Of all our cities, it is America's metaphor."
- Studs Terkel

Chicago is the most American of all cities, good and bad. It is a city of 2.89 million people living in 198 neighborhoods. And that is how one should approach this wonderful place, neighborhood by neighborhood.
from way high up

now back to our regularly scheduled page

General tips is an overview of the city's most interesting neighborhoods and what makes them so special.

Must See Activies comes from an historical and personal perspective. Some are well known, some obscure, all will give you an understanding of what the place is about.

Everything else will be under Off The Beaten Path.

A few areas have their own sights here on VT. Please visit my Pullman and Kenwood pages.

I have a lot more to add here, but often it's a matter of waiting on film developing, inspiration, free time, etc...

Here's some things I hope to be adding soon. Check back everyone once in awhile:

-Northside neighborhood overviews
-My favorite architectural gems
-More Museum Campus info
-More sports!!
-and who knows, maybe I'll get around to mentioning some of my favorite restaurants and bars.

Alta Vista Terrace is without a doubt, my favorite street in Chicago! When I was 9 I had to show a friend this gem & so we walked from Western/Roscoe to Alta & back. Many years later...anytime I'm in the area, it's still a must-see. :) Happy travels!
