The travel books don't seem to like Katowice much - but I do ...
If you arrive by train, first impressions may not be so good & Katowice does not have a historic Rynek like many Polish cities, but it's a friendly city with lots of good restaurants, cafes & bars.
ul. Stawowa, which is directly opposite you when you come down the old steps from the train station, is full of eating places - there's an internet cafe there too now.
