Louisiana my home

by WFTR - last update: Jun 7, 2003

My history here

I've lived in Louisiana since late January of 2002, but I've visited a few times. My first trip was in the spring of '89 when a former employer sent me to a conference in New Orleans. I visited a few times in the early 90's on business for that employer. Beginning in 2000, I visited a few times a year on business for another employer and eventually transferred here with that employer. I've tried to see a little bit of Louisiana beyond the insides of conference rooms or plants, and I'm beginning to have considerable success. I like my new home state and enjoy seeing what there is to see. I will keep VT'ers posted on these pages.
In my year or so in Louisiana, I've already come to one conclusion. The definition of a "must see" site in Louisiana is entirely a matter of personal taste. In my other pages, I generally give this designation to places of extraordinary scenic or historic value that are also somewhat well known. I'm mostly following that tradition here by putting primarily plantation homes in the "Must see" category. However, I have some of these homes in the "Off the Beaten Path" category, and these homes are often just as nice as those in the "Must See." My outdoor tips will mostly be in the "Off the Beaten Path" category. Bird watchers will find some good tips there.

Please be aware that Tezcuco Plantation burned down in May 2002. It was a beautiful piece of history, and its loss is felt by the folks in the area.
