This morning I woke up at 7am. After breakfast I went packing my suitcase. Around 8.30am my dad and I went to the airport. At around 9.30am we arrived at Schiphol Airport. I went to the check-in desk and checked myself in. After that me and my dad went to a restaurant for a drink. Around 10.30am I went through customs. First I bought some US dollars. After that I went slowly to the gate. By the gate I sat down for a while before boarding. Around 11.45am they started to board. I had to answer a lot of questions. After that I went through the gate. While I was walking through it, the alarm went off. They were doing a body search right away. I had to do my shoes off as well. They also searched for my bag. After that, everything was ok. In the next room I had to wait for an hour (as the flight from NYC to Amsterdam arrived late). The flight to NYC was 7 hours and 5 minutes. At customs I had to wait for 15 minutes in line. When I was through customs and had my suitcase, I went to a desk to get transport to the hotel. I had to wait for a few minutes. It took nearly 2 hours to get to the hotel. Once in the hotel I checked in. And went to my room to relax.

This morning I stood up at 7.30am. After I got dressed, I went for breakfast. Once I was finished, I went back to my room. I got my bag and went downstairs. By the entrance of the hotel I took a cab. The cab dropped me off by Ground Zero. Up here I started the 'walking tour' from the Lonely Planet book. This is a fun tour to walk. Around 3.30pm I was back in the hotel. I rested up there before it was time to have dinner. I had dinner by Fridays. After dinner I went walking on Broadway. At a certain time I went back to the hotel.

This morning I woke up at 7.30am. After breakfast I took a cab. I went to Pier 83. Once I arrived at Pier 83, I went to the till. Up here I handed over the voucher for the boat tour. After that I had to wait in line for boat number 2. At 9am the gate went open. First they made a picture of you. Then they had to check your bag(s). Once they checked my bag, I went to the boat. I went to the upper deck (a place on the right side of the boat). At 9.30am the boat left. The boat wasn't completely full. The boat went around Manhattan for 3 hours. I have seen ie Statue of Liberty. Which was great. :) When it was 12.30pm, the boat was back at the starting point. After I got out of the boat, I went to a restaurant which was located near the boat. I took a Veggie Burger with fries. Near the restaurant there was a fountain where young kids were running around it. Which was nice to see. After lunch I went walking in the direction of the hotel. Once back in the hotel I relaxed a bit. For dinner I went to the Hard Rock Cafe. After I had dinner, I went to the shop of the Hard Rock Cafe. Once I was back in the hotel I went to the shower and changed clothes. At 7pm I went outside. I took a cab to the Ambassador Theatre for the musical Chicago. I was there around 7.15pm. I had to stand in line before the doors went open. At 7.30pm the doors went open. The show started at 8pm. It was a great show! When it was 10.30pm it finished. After the musical I went back to the hotel.

Once I arrived here, I started to walk a route that was published in the Lonely Planet book. Around 12.30pm I went to a stall. I bought a pretzel and an icetea. I sat on a bench and had my lunch. After a while I went back and walked along Central Park. I have bought a hot chocolate by Starbucks on the way. Around 4.30pm I went to Fridays. When I walked to this restaurant, I saw the Naked Cowboy. |

I woke up at 6.30am. After breakfast I packed my bag. Then I went to the busstop where Tina (my NYC penpal) and I agreed for meeting. When I arrived there, Tina was there allready. She got the tickets for the bus. We went to the boarding stop of the bus (it was across the road). We had to wait some time. At a certain point the bus came. We went upstairs in the bus. First we did a part of the route. Then we went out at Central Park. We walked through Central Park to the other side of it. From there we went to the New York Historical Society. We have been here for about 2 hours. After the museum we took the Subway to Littly Italy. Up there we ate something for lunch. Once we were finished, we went to the busstop again. In the bus we went on the route. When we were at the United Nations building, we went out. First we had to go through security. Then we went to the desk and asked if it was possible to get a tour. Which was possible. We bought the tickets and had to wait about 5 minutes. The tour started. It went through 3 rooms. One of them we couldn't make pictures because there was a meeting going on. After the tour we went to buy some souvenirs. Once we had enough, we took the bus again. At a certain point we went out of the bus. We went to an Italian restaurant. After dinner we went to the busstop. From here we did the Nighttour. This nighttour lasts for 2 hours. Which was fun to do so. We saw the lights in the dark as well. When it was 10pm, the tour was over. We said goodbye. Tina went to her house and I went to the hotel.

This morning I woke up at 8am. After breakfast I went back to my room. I got my bag and went waiting in front of the hotel. It took some time before Tina arrived (she was in a wrong train first). But at 10.15am she came. We took the Subway to the Empire State Building. Once we were there, we bought our ticket first. Then we had to wait in line to get up. Once we were at floor 80, we had great views over NYC. After a while we went back down. Up there we had a 'virtual tour through NYC'. When this was finished, we had lunch. After lunch we took the bus. By the stop for the Brooklyn loop we went out. We waited for about half an hour befor a bus arrived. At 4pm the bus started. The ride took place for about 2 hours. Then we went to the beginning of the stop at Broadway. Up there we went to Fridays and had dinner. After dinner we went outside and sad goodbye to eachother. I went to the hotel.

I woke up at 7.45am. After I got dressed, I went to breakfast. Once I was finished I went to my room to get my bag. First I went the store of M&Ms. This was really nice to be here. To see here all these coloured candies! I have bought several things up here. After this store I went to Macy's. First I saw the first floor. I bought some earrings. Then I went to the top floor. I walked around a bit. There was a McDonalds in Macy's. I had lunch here. Once I was finished I went downstairs and saw more of Macy's. Once I was out of the store, I walked to Broadway. On the way I saw Office Depot. Up there I bought some writing paper and send it back home. Then I went out and walked further. By Virgin Megastore I bought several CDs. I walked a bit more on Broadway. Then I went back to the hotel. I had some relaxing moments here. I made a start to pack my suitcase. At one point I went out for dinner. I went to an Italian restaurant. I took spaghetti. After I was finished, I went back to the hotel. |
21 June 2008
This morning I woke up at 8am. After breakfast I packed my suitcase and bag. A final round through the room to check if I didn't forget a thing. Which I didn't. Then I locked my suitcase and went to the reception. I checked out. I left my suitcase by the reception. I was sitting in the lobby and went reading. When it was about 11.15am, I went to the restaurant for the VT-meeting. For the restaurant I waited a bit. Then Robyn came. We both went in. Clarence and his wife were sitting there allready. We had a chat before the others came. There were quite a lot of people at this meeting (around 25 people). At a certain time we ordered lunch. I had salmon&mashed potatoes&asparagus and for dessert cheescake. Which was really good. When it was about 2.10pm I left. I went to the hotel to relax a bit. At 4.10pm I went downstairs. I collected my suitcase and waited for the transport to JFK airport. I arrived at the airport at 5.10pm. I went straight to the desk to check-in. I thought my suitcase would by too heavy, but apperently it wasn't as they didn't say anything about it. Through to security. After that I went for dinner. Then I went to the gate. Boarding started at 8.05pm. At 9pm the plane left the gate. But it took an hour from the gate to get in the air. There were a lot of planes leaving at the same time. The flight was 6.5 hours long. I arrived at Schiphol around 10.45am the next day. It took some time before I got my suitcase. Which is normal at Schiphol. But I came home at 1pm. | | | The New York Stock Exchange |
