02 September 2007

This morning I woke up at 8.30am. Ater breakfast I packed the last things in my suitcase. When I was ready, I watched some tv. At 10.30am me and my parents drove to Schiphol Airport. We arrived there around 11.30am. We went straight to the check-in desk. It took about 25 minutes before I could check in. Within 5 minutes I was ready. I went right to customs as it was getting closer to the boarding time. After customs I went to eat a sandwich and to the bank to get some Crowns. When I finished that, I went to the gate. We went in the air at 14.10pm (it was 10 minutes later as scheduled). The flight took 3 hours. I arrived in Reykjavik at 3.15pm (there is 2 hours time difference between the Netherlands and Iceland; from the Netherlands it is 2 hours back). Through customs and going "outside". At first I didn't see my penpal from Iceland, but in the end I did meet her. When we had our stuff in the car, we went to the hotel I was staying at. I checked in and put my stuff in the room. Now we went to an Italian restaurant and we had both pizza. It was really nice to have this dinner with my Icelandic penpal (it was the first time we met in person). At a certain time we went back to my hotel and I went to my room where I rested for the rest of the evening.

I woke up at 7.15am. After breakfast I packed my bag and went down to the reception. I asked what the best option was of going to the centre and it was going by bus (as it was raining cats and dogs outside). So, that is what I did. From the bust terminal Hlemmur I walked into the main shopping street of Reykjavik. I went to the Hallgrimskirkja church. From here you have a great view over the city. I went insight the church as well. It was really nice to see this church. When I was outside the church, I took some pictures of the Leifur Eirikson Statue in front of the church. Once I was finished taking the pictures, I went to the Domkirkja (which is another church). This is a smaller church as the Hallgrimskirkja. From here I walked a small round. I had lunch at Subway. From here I went into the shopping street. From Austurstraet, via Bankastraeti to Laugavegur. I also walked into other streets to make pictures. At a certain time I took the bus to the hotel.

This morning I woke up at 7.30am. After breakfast I got my bag and went to the bus. When I was at the Hlemmur Bus Terminal I walked to the Alpingi (parliament) building. It is not a huge building. But it was nice to see it. Then I walked to the Tjörn. This is a lake. From here you have nice views of the buildings and houses that are around this lake. After that I went to th Arnarholl and Ingolfur Arnarson Statue. This one was standing on a hill. You have a nice view over the harbour. I walked to the Pjodmenningarhusid (Culture House), but it was not open as it there were reconstruction work going on. This was a bit of a bummer. But I went on to a tea/coffee house to have a drink. During the tea I did put stamps on the postcards which I was sending to family/friends. After the tea I went to a mailbox to put the postcards in and went to the hotel (were I had lunch). In the afternoon I walked to the Kringlan Shopping Centre. It was really nice to be here. I bought some souvenirs. At the end of the afternoon I went back to the hotel.

This morning I woke up at 7.30am. After breakfast I packed my bag. I took a cab to Perlan. I was there before they opened the doors, so I walked around a bit. When it was 10am, I went inside the Perlan. The Saga Museum wasn't open yet, so I waited to get in. In the Saga Museum you will see how Iceland was becoming a nation. After the museum I went to the Lookout. Up here you have a good view over Reykjavik as well. At a certain time I went inside and had lunch. When I walked out of the Perlan, you can walk some tracks. I tried to do one. I wanted to go the beach, but there were construction going on in this area. So, that is why I decided to go back. I also went back to the hotel. In the afternoon it rained so much that I stayed at the hotel.

06 September 2007

This morning I stood up at 6am. After breakfast I packed my bags. At 7.05am I checked out of the hotel. I had to wait for the bus to bring me to the BSI Bus Terminal. The bus arrived at 7.25am and after everybody was sitting in the bus, the bus left at 7.30am. On the way to the Bus Terminal we picked up some people. At 7.50am we were at the Bus Terminal. I had to wait till the next bus arrived. At 8.55am I arrived at the Airport in Keflavik. I waited some and drank something before I went in line for picking up the rental car. I gave all the details to the women from Hertz and in 5 minutes I had all the information I needed. So, I walked to the car and put all my stuff in it. Now it was off to Vik!!

From Nesjavellir we went to route 1 to Reykjavik. We arrived at this hotel around 11.30am. We checked in. When we checked in, we went to the gift shop. Up here you can also book some trips. We decided to ask for the whale spotting trip. There were places left to do this. So, we booked this and had 15 minutes to pack our stuff. At noon we were picked up by the organisation. We went to the boat and at 1pm the boat left. It was hard to spot the whales, but after an hour we spotted the first ones. It were only the small wales and you only saw the fin of the whales.

21 September 2007

This day was the last day of our trip here in Iceland. We had the best weather: sun all day (the rest of the holiday we had every day showers or a whole day rain). We went to the shopping streets. It was really nice to be here.

22 September 2007
