THE NETHERLANDS

I donīt have much tips, stories, photos, etc about the Netherlands. But I will try to add some info.

In the night of 03 March 2005 to 04 March 2005 a weather record has been broken. It was -20C, the coldest night in March ever. The previouw one was in 1971.

Provinces

The Netherlands is situated in Western Europe. The country is bounded by Germany in the east and Belgium in the south. The population of the Netherlands is more than 16 million people.

The Netherlands has 12 provinces. They are:

Drenthe
A farmer province from the Middle Ages is still present. There are not that many big cities up here.

Flevoland
This is the youngest province of the country. Previous there was water where this province is right now. The population in this province is growing a lot.

Friesland
It is a very characteristic province. Beautiful cities and villages with a rich cultures to green pastures and lakes.

Gelderland
This province is the biggest province of the country (more than 5100 km2). It is an area full of forests, rivers and castels.

Groningen
The province is most north of the country. In the northwest you will find mounds, in the north there is mud-flats and in the south east you will find fen-land community.

Limburg
Province of carnaval. There are also caves in this province.

Noord Holland
The northern part of the province is pretty much empty, but the southern part of the country is completely crowdy. The province is sorrounded by 3 seas: Northsea, Waddenzee and IJsselmeer.

Noord Brabant
The secone biggest province of the country. The landscapes up here are amazing.

Overijssel
This province has good nature areas and old little villages.

Utrecht
The province has a varied landscape with a lot of scenic beaty which will invite you for a walk or a bike ride.

Zeeland
Water is taking a big part for this province. In 1953 there were big floods, nowadays there are flood barriers.

Zuid Holland
This province is densely crowded. It has a rich history of the cities (monuments and the old citty centres.
