BRISBANE

by a5floor - last update: Aug 21, 2005

When the plane landed in Brisbane on 07 October 2001 and I was through customs, it became 10.15am. In the arrivinghall I looked what kind of transport I could take from the airport to the hostel. When I walked outside , I went straight to a bus. I had to buy a ticket before going on the bus, but he said we could arrange something. By the point where the busses came together, I had to buy a ticket inside the hall. I took another bus to go to the hostel. When I arrived at the hostel, I checked in. After being settled in the room, I was going out for an eat and a drink. After going back to the hostel I was taking some leaflets about things to do which looked ok for me. I relaxed more before going to a restaurant for dinner.

On 08 October 2001I stood up around 8am. After breakfast I went out for walking around. I went to the Brisbane River. When I arrived there, I went to the North Quay. This was the nearest point for the ferry. I had to wait there because the ferry wasn't there yet. After 5 minutes the City Cat (name of the ferry) came. First I went to New Farm Park. This was a little park and I walked around. Half an hour later I was on the City Cat again. Next stop: Bretts Wharf. I went to Racecourse Rd. Because I was hungry, I went to a restaurant. There was a restaurant where they served "poffertjes" (little pancakes). After having this, I walked around this street. Around 2pm I took the City Cat again. I went to the other side of the route. By Guyatt Pk I went out. I haven't been long here. So, I took the City Cat back to the starting point. On the way back to the hostel I went to a restaurant for dinner.

On 09 October 2001 I went out of bed at 8.30am. After breakfast I went to Qeeun St Mall. This is a shopping area. I was here the whole day.

On 10 October 2001 I went out of bed at 8.30am. I decided it is going to be relaxing day. Nothing planned for today. Just relaxing by the hostel.
On 11 October 2001 I went out of bed at 8.15am. After breakfast I went to the busterminal under Queen St Mall. There I asked where platform N was. Luckely it wasn?t that far. The bus left at 10.15am. I went to Lone Pine (a zoo with Australian animals). The ride to the zoo was about 45 minutes. After buying a ticket, I walked along a wombat. This wombat was sleeping inside a tree. Next stop: koala. You can take a picture of you with a koala. Which I did. (While I was waiting in the line for the pic, a man was standing ready for taking a pic. At that moment, the koala did his pieing and ***. I had the same koala as the man. Luckely the koala didn?t do it at me). After taking the pic, I bought a little bag of food for the kangaroo?s. There is a seperate area for the kangeroo?s. You can enter this area with the food for them. It is really nice to walk around in this area. When you give the food to the kangaroo?s, you have to kneel down and give the food on a flat hand. This is the easiest way to give the food to them. In real life they seem bigger than on the tv screen. Next stop: the rest of the park. I walked along birds (like Lorikeets), dingo?s, more koala?s and the Tasmanian Devil (crazy little animal was running around). Around 12.15pm it was time for lunch. After lunch I walked a bit more in the zoo. At 1pm I took the bus back to town. I arrived at Queen St Mall where I was sitting on a bench for a while. After that I went for more shopping. In the evening it started to rain after a dry period of 6 weeks.

On 12 October I stept out of bed at 8.45am. After breakfast I went out to book a trip to Moreton Island/Tangalooma. I intend to go on Sunday, but it was complety booked on this day. So now I go on Monday. When I booked this, I went to the Botanical Garden at Brisbane River. I stayed a while on a bench to watch life on the water. After a while I walked along the Brisbane River. There was also an open air theatre. When there is a play, people can sit on the hill and watch it. I climbed the hill. Up the hill I had a fantastic view. Along the Queensland University of Science I walked back. At Queen St Mall I had lunch. In the afternoon I didnýt muh special, just relaxing in the back yard of the hostel.
On 13 October 2001 I didnýt much special. Just relaxing.

On 14 October 2001 I didnýt much special either: relaxing.

On 15 October 2001 I woke up early. At 9.15am I had to be at the busstation. I didn´t know how long I it was walking. I was there in time (8.30am I arrived at the busstation). At 9.10am the Tangalooma dubbledeck bus came. When everybody was checked in, we left. On the way we had to make 1 stop to pick up some people. At 9.30am we arrived by the catamaran. There were some people already waiting. 10.10am we were boarding. The boat ride was about 1hour and 15 minutes. When I was off the boat, people of the Island were feeding pelicans and other birds. I went with the group which got information about what to find where. At a certain time I went further on my own. First I had to go to the bathroom (I really needed to go). After that I went for some food and a drink. When I had this finished, I went for a walk. A walk along the beach. At the end of the beach there were some wrecks of old boats. At a certain time I went walking back. Through the water which was really warm. When I was near the boat, I boat an ice cream. Which was pleasent to eat on this warm day. I was standing in the shade for a while. At 3.15pm everybody went on board of the boat. 3.30pm we were leaving the Island. Around 5.15pm I was back in Brisbane. The people who were on the Tangalooma bus had to wait about 10 minutes before the bus came. The ride took longer because it was rush-hour. Today I went to the McDonalds for dinner.
For pictures of this day, look at my Tangalooma page.

On 16 October 2001 I didn´t do much specail. Just relaxing for the next day.

On 17 October 2001 I took the plane back home after a great holiday. :)

Previous city of my trip: Sydney.

This is the worst hostel I have ever stayed in! I got eaten alive by bed bugs and had to go to the drs as I had huge red bites all over. This is a dirty festering pit of a hostel and should be incinerated!! DO NOT stay at this hostel unless you are a dog!
