    Getting TO/AROUND: The Amsterdam Central Station was the first Dutch Station designed by an architect. In 1876 P.J.H. Cuypers started the design with the aid of A.L. van Gendt. From 1882 till 1889 the 306 by 30 meter building was constructed.

    The most used train connection is the one from the
    Schiphol Airport Station to the
    Amsterdam-Centraal Station

    IMPORTANT NOTICE: THE SO CALLED "STRIPPENKAART" WILL BE OUTPHASED AND IS NO LONGER VALID AFTER AUGUST 2009!

    The Amsterdam Public Transport or GVB (Gemeentelijk Vervoer Bedrijf) has many means of transportation, like tram, bus, metro and ferry.

    For using the Amsterdam Public Transportation (GVB) there are a number of options:
    -Using an anonymous rechargable or a disposable "OV-chip kaart"; see OV Chipkaart information GVB or National OV-Chipkaart information

    -Ticket for one day or more days; see GVB day tickets

    -IAmsterdam card, a combination with free museum entrance and more; see IAmsterdam ticket info; IAmsterdam Information.

    Tram -: Take the tram

    Getting TO/AROUND: Most attractions in center city are just a half walk from the Central Station, but sometimes taking a tram is more convenient.

    10 different Trams travel to/from the Central Station, covering all areas of center city.

    The Tram is managed by the GVB, the Amsterdam Transport Authority also managing the local metro, busses and ferries.

    These are the Amsterdam Tram lines:

    -1 -Centraal Station-Osdorp de Aker
    -2 -Centraal Station-Oudenaardeplantsoen
    -3 -Muiderpoortstation-Zoutkeetsgracht
    -4 -Centraal Station-Drentepark
    -5 -Centraal Station-Binnenhof
    -7 -Sloterpark (bad)-Flevopark
    -9 -Centraal Station-Diemen Sniep
    -10-Van Hallstraat-Azartplein
    -12-Station Sloterdijk-Amstelstation
    -13-Centraal Station-Lambertus Zijlplein
    -14-Sloterpark (bad)-Flevopark
    -16-Centraal Station-Gustav Mahlerlaan
    -17-Centraal Station-Dijkgraafplein
    -24-Centraal Station-Stadionplein
    -25-Passenger Terminal Amsterdam-President Kennedylaan
    -26-Centraal Station-IJburg Ruisrietstraat

    Like taking a metro or bus you can travel the metro with an "OV chipkaart".

    Disposable tickets can be bought at the tram.
    Much on the trams is self-service:
    -opening the entry doors
    -checking in your OV chipkaart
    -pressing the stop button if you want to leave at the next stop
    -checking out your OV chipkaart

    Amsterdam's subway is under futher development. The Central line will be extended under Het IJ by tunnel to Amsterdam North.

    Metro: The new North-South metro

    Getting TO/AROUND: The new North-South metro will connect the North of Amsterdam with the South, reducing the travel time to just 15 minutes. Scheduled daily number of passengers will be up to a quarter of a million.

    In the Information Centre of the Noord/Zuidlijn you will find an interesting exhibition consisting of numerous scale models, photos, films, archaeological finds and a display describing the various different engineering methods being applied. But you can also take part in a variety of activities that the Information Centre organises throughout the year, such as guided tours and informative evening programmes.

    Getting TO/AROUND: The Amstel Station is one of the Amsterdam train stations at the line to the South (City of Utrecht). It was enlarged to accomadate the metro lines to the South (Amstelveen, Bijlmermeer & Arena stadium).

    The original building called Weesperpoort station at the end of the railroad to the East dated from December 18, 1843. It was replaced by the present building by architect H.G.J. Schelling, dating from October 15, 1939 as part of the Eastern Amsterdam railroad works.
    The Amstel Station is a monument since 2003.

    Bus - Opstapper - Stop and Go: Stop/Go (former "De Opstapper")

    Getting TO/AROUND: Stop/Go is a minibus that serves the Prinsengracht, the outer canalbelt.
    The bus travels between the Central Station and the Stopera.

    Businesshours:
    Mo - Sa: 7.30AM - 6.30PM

    Costs: 2 zones on a Strippenkaart or just one Euro.

     today we visited the Anne Frank house. After seeiing the movie about her on 4 may it was impressive to see the house where 8 people stayed for 2 years. On our way to the station we passed unintentional the red-light district. Well, that's Amsterdam also
