Nightlife Spot: MUZIEKGEBOUW AAN 'T IJ

The "Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ" opened in June 2005 and is the newest Musical concert hall in Amsterdam.

The building offers a great view onto the Amsterdam Waterfront.

Nightlife Spot: Carré

The Carré Roal Theater is named after its builder Oscar Carré, a circus director who was lloking for a permanent building for his circus. That circus was semi-permanent housed in a wooden building with a stone facade since 1879.
In 1887 the complete stone building was opened.
When the circus was on the road, the building was used for theater shows and other comedy shows.
Oscar Carré died in 1911 and thereafter the winter circus shows stopped.
Theater shows continued nonetheless with financial ups and downs.
After Wordl War II also musical shows were given at Carré.
The City of Amsterdam bought the building in 1977 and after 100 years the Royal title was given to Carré in 1987.
Major reconstructions were made from 1991 to 1993 and once again in 2003-2004, when the interior was completely updated.

Nightlife Spot: Concertgebouw

In 1883 the construction for the Concertgebouw -Amsterdam's Concert Hall for classical music, designed by Adolf Leonard van Gendt- started. At the time the location was an empty polder. More than 2000 poles were used to give the foundations a solid anchor.

In 1888 the building was opened with music from Wagner, Händel, Bach and Beethoven.

From1985 till 1988 a new Main entrance was created at the J.W. Brouwersplein with a glass foyer designed by van Pi de Bruijn.

The performances are not limited to classical orchetra's; I've seen King Crimson perfrom at the main hall. Many more popgroups have been there too.
