De Hasseler Es

Welcome to the Eastern Hengelo suburb

Hasselo was a small village in Twente, but now it is a suburb of the city of Hengelo known as De Hasseler Es.

Hasselo was a so-called marke in between other markes like Deurningen, Lonneker, Groot Driene, Klein Driene, Woolde, Zenderen and Hertme.
The markes originate from the 9th century, when the Franken came into the area.
The treaty of Selz from 804 put the "gouw" Twenthe under control of Karel de Grote. From than on the people had to pay taxes to the bishop.

De Hasseler Baan

De Hasseler Baan is the central entrance roed from the A1 highway exit 31 (Hengelo Noord). From the Hasseler Baan further Eswegen lead to the other streets in this suburb.

Grand Oriëntal - we have a restaurant in our town that sounds very similar. The All-You-Can-Eat Chinese food. Nummy, but way too full tummy.
