Koog aan de Zaan reflection

Koog aan de Zaan grew at the West bank of the Zaan river after dams were made to control the water.

The village was home to fishermen and farmers. Around 1600 many mills were built and industry florished. Kook aan de Zaan became a community of hard working people, with 70% of its inhabitants working in the industry.

In Koog aan de Zaan you still can find the characteristic wooden houses.
