| | First Impressions My first impressions of Ieper were many. Driving through the sloping landscape the first signs are those of a prosperous town. Entering the old town through the Menin Gate suddenly opens your eyes for the many victims of the first World War. The monumental buildings around the market square thereafter gives the impression of a nice old Midieval town. That impression only last as long as you realise this complete area was completely destroyed in the last days of the war. You value all the efforts that were made to rebuild Ieper in its original glory and constant remembrance of the war deads. |
| | Multi Langual One thing that strikes the Ieper visitor is that all publications and signs are in 4 languages, related to the forces that fought the battles around Ieper in World War I: Dutch, French, English and German. |
