The capital

Asuncion is a nice town in the sub-tropics with only 10 days of rain per year. I've lived here in 1981 and visited the country twice thereafter for 5 and 2 weeks.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:10 days with rain per year
  • Cons:Safe haven for criminals
  • In a nutshell:Paraguay's Capital

Fascinating place. My fondest memory of Asuncion was the steam train ( long since gone now i understand) and the funniest, innocently i might add, staying in a hotel more normally rented by the hour though that probably applied to half the hotels there in those days.lol.

Somewhere in our house are some 10000+ printed photos from our time in Paraguay. The best of those will be scanned someday and added here (for more good memories of course). PJ

Good tips and photos. Paraguay is definitely someplace that is little known by most people of the world. Best from New Jersey, Bill

Must have been fascinating to live here all those years ago. Have just arrive1d here and am finding I need VT as a reference as there's so little in guidebooks or in the tourismos here.

Worth noting that the Post Office was originally built as ther home of a businessman who got rich selling supplies to both sides during the Guerra Grande (1864-1870) between Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. I would not mind living in it ;-3)
