In the middle of rural MecVoPo
Castle Entrance

Dargun is a small village with an old history. The Dargun monastry was founded in 1171 by Danish Zisterzienser monks and has been reconstructed as a brick building in 1225. The church lost the monastry in 1552 and the complex changed into the property of Duke Johann Albrecht I. At his instigation, the monastry was reconstructed into a castle. Duke Ulrich of Mecklenburg used the castle as a side residence. He ordered the construction of the Guestrow castle at the same point in time. A rectangular court was added later on.
The whole castle complex was destroyed by arson in 1945, but the mighty ruins in the former castle gardens remind of the former size of the facility.
Nowadays do exhibitions and concerts take place here. The former guesthouse accommodates the local museum and weddings take place in the 300 years old tea-pavilion.

The village appears to be very calm & relaxing. I missed it during my two-year tour.
