Several travellers' hotels are in this area, due to its proximity to the city centre, its quietness and distinctive architecture (more than one VT’er have stayed here...I know that). More upmarket places nearby are the Hotel Paris (US$ 18/person) and the fancy 4-star Hotel Fundador and Kempinski

Unique Qualities: Just one block south of Alameda, behind the Iglesia de San Francisco, is the Barrio (Quarter) Paris Londres, a small area of buildings that somewhat resemble the European architecture of the 1850’s or so (once it was chosen as a location for filming Austrian street scenes for the movie Seven years in Tibet).
Its cobblestoned, narrow and winding streets, their 3 or 4-storey buildings and the small plaza are appealing at any time of the day or the night, and an interesting photo subject in foggy winter nights.
