Maroubra to La Perouse If you are looking for an easy, enjoyable walk along Sydney's BEAUTIFUL coastline, then this is a great one! Everyone has heard about the Bondi to Coogee walk, but did you know you can walk from Coogee to Maroubra? AND you can walk from Maroubra to La Perouse!
Starting at the south end of Maroubra Beach, you walk up around the headland (behind the rifle range! You'll hear the shots), with the most gorgeous view over the water. Keep your eyes open for banksias, flannel flowers, native birds and lizards. You'll pass a little inlet/beach, then make your way to the golf course, continue to follow the coastline, on the edge of the golf course. More lovely views, sometimes whales to see! you'll eventually come to the beach at Little Bay, just below the old Prince Henry Hospital, where the water looks so inviting! Up onto the headlands again, past another golf course, and then past an old cemetery.
Soon you'll be on the La Perouse headland, which is national park. Rouding the headland, you'll come across relics from WW2, old concrete bunkers and gun foundations. You'll get a great view of Bare Island, where Mission Impossible 2 was filmed. Eventually, you'll arrive in La Perouse itself, well and truly ready for fish and chips on the beach!
The walk took us about 3.5 hrs. The trail isn't very well marked at times, so it is useful to have a map! |
