Arriving in Como Saturday July 15, 2006

We didn't arrive in Como until early afternoon. I stopped at a chain hotel once we made it to Como and got directions to where we were staying. I ended up missing the left I was supposed to take and wound up taking this incredible road that went up and around the lake. At points it was barely wide enough to fit two cars. The view of the lake was amazing and the driving was really fun, many twists, turns and tunnels. We ended up taking a left which looked like it brought you to a road even closer to the lake, but it ended up just stopping in a cave. The road just ended and there were people parked all along the side. It was a bit nerve-racking backing out of the cave, but no harm done and just added to the adventure. Back the way we came and down to the hotel.

After checking into the hotel we crossed the street and took one of the old steamships around the lake. This was one of the more romantic and relaxing times on the honeymoon. We were sitting outside on the deck of the boat, there was a really nice breeze, we just finished eating some gelato. Life was good, and some of the most beautiful views I've ever seen.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Mountains & lake = Amazing scenery
Cons:If you arrive late in the afternoon you wont be able to see much of the lake

Amazingly beautiful. We passed thru Como once and were amazed. Can't believe you found a bad restaurant in Italy. You should have just drank a lot of wine and eaten olives...enjoyed the view! Thanks for your candor.
