Gibraltars history has been ruled by 2 main factors, its location & the physical shape of it.At one of the worlds crossroads it has attracted various visitors over the years.
Phoenicians(950BC)and Carthaginians.Then followed the Romans eho called it "mons calpe"but didnt establish a town there ,then followed the barbarians from the east ,the goths and the vandals.In 632 after mohammeds death followed the arabs.
Gibraltar was not recaptured from the moors until 1462 by the spanish where it remaind in posession until the 18th century

I was holidaying in Portugal Oct 2002 and decided to take a 2 day trip to Seville and Gibraltar
The first thing that Isaw when approaching 'GIB' was of course the rock.Travelling by coach from Seville the weather was good until we neared the hills some 100km or so north of GIB.You can see that on the picture I took here the cloud just kissing the top of the rock.
