"Suzdal - a little Russian fairytale" Suzdal' by heplion

Suzdal' Travel Guide: 129 reviews and 358 photos

Suzdal is perhaps the most scenic Russian sity I have visited so far. When the railroad was built, it bypassed this little city just north of Moscow thus eleminitaing much possibility of any heavy industry in the area.

Suzdal flourished int the 12th and 13th centruries, before the city of Vladimir became prominant and took the title of capital of the region away from Suzdal. In the mid 1200's, Batu Khan's horde invaded and destroyed much of the town. in the early 1400's, after rebuilding, Suzdal became known as a religious centre. Towards the end of the 15th century, the city began building in stone and manyh of the wonderful buildings and churches from that area are still standing today.
