The Wadi Mujib is a river that used to be the frontier between two of the acient kingdoms: amorreans and moabits. This valley, that ends in the Dead Sea, offer spectacular views. The from Amman to the south (Petra and Aqaba) can be done through the motorway, but the Route of the Kings (also knows as the former roman Nova Via Trajana) is much more spectacular, as you'll pass through this incredible valley with really scenic landscapes.

Things To Do: Jordanian wines

If you are a usual wine drinker, give a try to Jordanian wines. They're rather inexpensive, and would be the perfect company of a jordanian dinner. Local and international wines are available at best restaurants and international hotels. We tried a few different brands of jordanian wines, and in general we must said that we liked better the white wines than the red wines (in spite of being usual red wine drinkers). Our favourite was Machareus (white), and we also liked Mount Nebo (white). St. Catherine white and Domain de Latron (white) weren't bad, but more common. As for the red ones, we liked Saint George, and we also tried Vin de chateau, which we found very ordinary. So .... our suggestions are Machareus for white and Saint George for red.

Things To Do: Jordanian cuisine

Jordanian cuisine is nice and tasty. You have a wide variety of courses, well cooked and prepeared and with nice local products. One of the nicest things I tried was humus, which is like a cream made of chickpeas, which is really tasty. Another really special thing was the "Sambousak", which bread pastries filled with meat, herbs, spinachs or white soft cheese.

Things To Do: PETRA

What can I say? It's one of the most astonishing places I've ever been. Simply a visit to Petra worths a travel to Jordan. Be sure that you can see many pictures, and read many articles about it, but you won't get a full idea on how impressive it is until you are there, standing in the middle of the valley looking at the natural and human made monuments that are surrounding you. I've been on December 31st and January 1st. The weather has been very nice. 20-25 degrees during day, which made the 10 hour journey inside Petra quite soft (I can't imagine how it can be in summer with 40 degrees) and nice 15-18 degrees during night. A journey in Petra can take several hours or even a couple or three days. But with an 8 to 10 hour journey around Petra, you can visit the most importat an interesting places. Don't miss the monastery up in the mountain, the 800 hundred step way up is really worth it.

This if the first monument you will see. They are 3 cubic towers, and archaeologist and experts in history don't come up with a common agreement on what they were made for. Would they be tombs? Or water tanks?

Things To Do: Petra: The Obelisk Tomb

One of the first things you see on the way to the siq is the Obelisk Tomb, on left side of the first valley. Egyptian and helenistic elements are combined in this first majestic monument, excavated from the rocks. The monument has two different parts. The top section, with clear eqyptian influenced piramidal obelisks, and the low section, which is called "The Triclinium Tomb", because of the three seats that has inside the main chamber, which is coronated by a typical helenistic three side front.

The end of the first valley is the entrance to the Siq, a 2 kilometre narrow gorge, along what used to be a river course. Nabateans made a dike and channels for the usage of water

Things To Do: Petra: What remains of the entrance arch

There used to be an arch with a gate at the entrance of the siq. The arch collapsed on 19th century. Now a days, you can see only some ruins and vestiges of it. But you can get an idea on how it was. And how decorated it must have been.

The two kilometre narrow gorge towards the Treasury and the rest of Petra's wonders. What used to be the curse of a river, Nabateans turned it to be the corridor to their sacred city. Water channels and ancient plumbings were built in order to use the water. There are also some vestiges of the nabatean road, and all the way is full of reliefs representing gods or other sculptures, most of them very erosionated.
