Double faced head

Small but very interesting museum at Amman's Citadel. It worths a visit.

It contains several archaelogical pieces from different places in Jordan, and various periods, from Paleolithic to Middle Ages. It includes some primitve sculptures (claimed to be the first ever done by humans), Dead Sea scrolls and Nabatean godess' relieves.

King Abdullah's mosque

It's the biggest mosque of the city and one of the most important monuments of Amman. It was built in the early 90s, it has twin towers and an huge blue dome, and it can be seen from many places in the city. It is a very good example of Amman's modern architechture. It is open for visitors, but it closes during praying times.

Amman has some examples of nice modern architechture, specially hotels and banks. This is a nice example of the development of the city and the country. A tour around Amman outisde the old town will let you see these pieces of contemporary architechture.

A street in central Amman

The area between the old town and the modern city is not particularly beautiful, but it is nice to have a tour around (by foot or by taxi) to feel the flavour of the city, of the jordanian way of life, and get to know the city better. Shops, people, caothic traffic ... but some nice spirit remains in the air.

Next to the roman theatre, there are still some vestiges of the forum and the cardo maximus (the main street in a roman city). The colums that remain take you for some moments to the ancient roman times. It's nice to have a walk around the area.

Downtown, in the very centre of Amman's old town, there's the Roman Theatre. Built between 169 and 177 A.D., it has room for 6000 people. It is very well preserved, though it has gone through some restoration process. It is surrounded by some other roman vestiges, and by the thousands of small houses that cope Amman's downtown.
