This is a place where people go to have a good time, not too expensive, and plenty good spirits. If you like it a bit quieter, opt for the deck out back.

Favorite Dish: I recommend the Blackened Halibut Salad. Attractively priced at $11. Most menu item are under $15.

The Captain Cook Hotel has four restaurants to choose from, We went to Fletcher's (Christain -- from the Bounty). The food was excellent and the staff was great. They have a moderate selection of seafood and Italian.

Reading the placemat, we were surprised to learn that the Fletcher's Pizza features Duck Sausage, and though we had already ordered, Quinn was nice enough to give us a sample, the cook warmed it for us. It is Excellent!

Favorite Dish: We ordered the Gnocci, a light potato pasta for $12.25, and the Garlic Cheese Bread (provolone, mozzarella, and parmesan) for $5.50. The Bread was to die for! It was late and we were not very hungry. They happily split the meal and served it on two seperate platters. For Dessert Gretchen had the Creme Brulee and I had a Bosc Pear Cheesecake wrapped in Chocolate. $4.75/each. There is also a moderate selection of beers and wines.

    Benihana: That's Entertainment

Share a table, and the chef cooks your meal for you dazzling you with his skill at cutlery. This is more than dinner, it is dinner and a show. Benihana is a Japanese-style Family Steakhouse, whatever that means.

    Reservations are recommended.

Favorite Dish: I had the Benihana Anchorage (Teriyaki Beef and Shrip), Gretchen had the Benihana Marina (Shrimp, Calamari, and Scallops) The Calamari was excellent, the beef was only so-so. Dinner includes a show and dessert. With sake our bill was $60. Lunch special for 2 is $18.

    Snow Goose: An odd combination

I was thrilled by the childrens menu! Absolutely guarenteed to please. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese! Corn dogs! and Oreo Cookies! $5.95. But, and this is the odd part, the upstairs is a cigar friendly bar. So your kids will eat, but it does smell like cigars.

Favorite Dish: Daniel recommends the Chicken Tenders, but it is hard to beat Kraft Mac and Cheese or Corn Dogs. The adult menu ranges from $10 for sandwhiches to $20 for entrees.

Stargazer1 (Ajay) and I met for lunch on my return from Girdwood. We drove around looking for a place, and this place was jumping. Lots of activity, so we thought we would give it a try.

Nothing fancy, this is a local burger joint, with lots of local color are passable food.

Ajay hoped his pepper would be spicier, but the minu does say mild.

As a benefit, there are plenty of locals here to add flavor.

Favorite Dish: I had the Kodiak Islander(what else): Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, mild pepper, bologna, salami, ham, ameerican and mozzarella cheese, topped with an onion ring for $4.55

Ajay had the Pepper Burger: Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, mild pepper, and Mozzarella Cheese for $4.50

    Fries: $1.60
    Onion Rings $1.70

    Cokes: $1.60

I am always looking for new places to eat and am delighted when I find one that is popular with the locals. The Sunrise Grill is off the beaten path, it is hard to explain where it is and I don't know if it is worth the effort, but the food was good, the prices reasonable, and it was doing a whopping trade with the locals.

Favorite Dish: Though they have an all day menu, I had breakfast, and the name of the place does suggest that is what they serve.

I chose the "pigs in a blanket" sausages wrapped in pancakes for $6.95.

The average tourist doesn't go to an office building to eat lunch, but all the local people do. We asked some locals and they gave this recommendation. It is less expensive than average, and the food is good. The sandwhiches are on fresh baked breads! and served with potato chips. Real American lunch!

Favorite Dish: A half sandwich and chips (plenty for lunch) will cost you $4.25. The special is $7.75. I had pastrami and swiss, Gretchen had the special, shepherds pie. Both were good, but stay away from the dessert.

    Hours are 7:am till 4:pm

Skippers is a fish and chips chain, but the one in Anchorage serves locally caught fish!! This is an inexpensive way to try our fish English style.

Favorite Dish: Try the Alaskan Cod or Halibut and don't forget a bowl of chowder.
