    • Favorite Thing: Visit the Log Cabin, visitor information center. Located downtown, it will provide you with any information you might need, and there is an awesome piece of jade out front. Every tourist takes a picture, so your photo album will not be complete without a stop here.

    Fondest Memory: Anchorage is the biggest city in Alaska, but it is not pretencious. It still feels comfortable if kitchy. Enjoy it for what it is.

    • Favorite Thing: Inside the Federal Building, caty-corner to the log cabin, is the Bureau of Land Management. On display are examples of Alaskan wildlife, and great information to help you get a feel for Alaska. Do not miss this FREE exhibit.

    Fondest Memory: Viewing the earthquake film inside the Bureau of Land Management.

    • Favorite Thing: This is more likely an "off the beaten path" tip, but statehood is an important milestone in the history of Alaska.

    Fondest Memory: I work for the post office, and it is amazing how many parcels come from the lower 48 with customs declarations. Alaska is a state!! I always get a big laugh about this.
