Miscellaneous: The most detailed guidebooks to New Caledonia in English were produced by Lonely Planet. Note that the publisher has recently dumped the country together with Vanuatu in one book, which means that some of the earlier detail is inevitably lost. I suggest that you get a copy of the older editions to New Caledonia alone - this is a very stable place where not much changes. Another great guide to the wider region is Moon's South Pacific Handbook, that covers New Caledonia in good detail and is pretty up to date.
