Packing Lists: Moon: Philippines Handbook
  • Tip Rating:

  • Miscellaneous: My favourite guidebook to the country. It is certainly the most detailed one, covering every single province, and has info on lots of remote places way off the beaten track.
    Excellent cultural background, too.
However, its practical details are now rather dated - back it up with the next book for those.

Packing Lists: Philippines Travel Guide by Jens Peters
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Miscellaneous: General concesus holds that this is the most detailed and updated practical travel guide to the country. The author used to write Lonely Planet's Philippines guide until their ways separated. Note that LP now gets poor reviews for this country!

Packing Lists: Action Asia Adventure Guide to THE PHILIPPINES
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Miscellaneous: An outstandingly informative and beautifully illustrated, 520 pages long guide to trekking, diving, rafting, surfing, biking, rock-climbing and ecotourism throughout the country.
Covers plenty of truly obscure spots you won't find in any other guidebook.
Unfortunately, as with the Moon guide, it is now out of print and unlike with that one, you would have to search hard and be very lucky to locate a copy. If you do find one, buy it quickly!!!

Packing Lists: The National Parks and Other Wild Places of the P.

  • Miscellaneous: This beautiful book is the only guide to the Philippines for ecotourists, and it is an excellent, inspiring one.
    Highly recommended!

  • Miscellaneous: Birdwatchers heading for the Philippines should certainly not leave home without this excellent field guide, the only one to the birds of the Philippines.

    Packing Lists: Filipino (Tagalog) Phrasebook
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Miscellaneous: Even though English is widely spoken, learning a few words in the country's other national language can be fun, and in fact useful if you go really far off the beaten track.
This new edition actually contains words and phrases in various major local languages in addition to "Filipino"!

Hello hunwagner! Such interest in my country, even if you weren't too impressed. But you're right about our people being more chummy than most Asians. If you decide to revisit, my friends and I will take you around. God bless!

I'm a Filipino but I haven't been to most of the places you've been to much less build pages like you do. Mabuhay ka!
