Terrain de Camping Chambonnier
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • This excellent campsite is about 2 kms to the north-west of the trailhead.
It is located on a decent beach in very neat coconut groves, signposted from the road.
The owners are very friendly and helpful, and the facilities were new, clean and modern at the time of my visit. I found it the best of the Kanak-run campsites I have seen.
The cost was 1000 Francs per night.

    Mountain Refuge
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Accomodation up on the mountain itself is limited to this very basic wooden hut.
It is located very high up, close to the peak and of course is only reachable on foot.
It would make a great (though no doubt cold) base for birdwatchers and other naturalists keen to explore the surrounding moss forest, but the mere thought of having to carry gear and food up there makes me recommend doing the climb as a day-trip otherwise!

    It is free of charge.

My goodness ! This looks almost untouched !! Thanks for a very exciting description of such a hiking gem :-)) I love these trails which you have to find or squeeze yourself through and which are not yet "hiking streets" :-))
