You should definitely get around on foot. It's the easiest and nicest way to explore the city. If you don't like the short walk from the Central Station to the Meir and/or Groenplaats, you could take the underground. But after a long train- or car ride, wouldn't you prefer some fresh air?

Cycling is a possibility too, but on the Meir you may just as well step off your bike, as the pedestrians are not going to give way to you!

Getting there by car is no problem at all, just follow the 'Antwerp' signs along the motorways. Getting around by car is more of a challenge, as Antwerp has many one-way streets (and they're always going the wrong way, believe me). There are quite a few car parks though. If they are full, try parking along the river Scheldt.

I usually take the train. Antwerp's Central Station (pic) is very central indeed: if you walk out the main entrance, just walk straight on to get to the Meir with its many shops.
If you come from Brussels Airport (Zaventem), take the train to Brussel-Zuid/Midi and change to the direct train to Antwerp/Roosendaal.
